Another day, another rooftop.
As a full-time writer in New York City, I often get invited to new openings and of course, rooftops to check out. Seriously, there’s a rooftop for anything you can think of:
- Want to impress friends with the best view of NYC ever? 230 Fifth is a must.
- Need to cool off with the socialites at one of the most amazing pools in the city? Good luck getting a membership at the SOHO House (just ask Samantha Jones).
- Looking to satisfy your craving for Mexican food, but prefer being out of Manhattan? Check out Alma in Brooklyn.
And those are just some quick ideas.
Anyway, I was invited to check out the opening of the Outdoor Rooftop Film Club at futuristic YOTEL hotel on 10th Avenue (they have robots to handle your luggage!). This movie club, which started in the UK, is now being offered to New Yorkers looking to watch some of their beloved classics along with the glowing skylines. Also, let’s not forget all the tasty burgers, thirst-quenching cocktails, and yes, popcorn, to keep you company.
Some of my favorite movies being featured this summer at YOTEL’s Rooftop Film Club include “Some Like it Hot,” “Roman Holiday,” “Clueless,” and “The Notebook.” Bring some Kleenex for the last one. You’ve been warned. On the night I was invited, “Top Gun” happened to be playing.
What did I wear for the occasion? Luckily, I have some photos prior to the event because I later became too busy enjoying sangria and popcorn with the stars. For the occasion, I wore a shirt dress from H&M’s Conscious Collection. Not only is it super soft, but you’ll feel good too knowing that this collection serves to bring awareness on using natural resources responsibly, recycling older materials, and being ethical. You can read all about their “seven commitments” here. It’s wonderful.
You can get the same dress on H&M for $39.99.
In addition to my usual cat-eye sunglasses, which you can easily find on Etsy, I pair the dress with massively jeweled floral earrings, also from H&M. They seem to no longer be available on the site, but I’m really feeling these shimmering beaded chandelier earrings they currently offer for $5.99. You can also get the same cuff bracelet in silver or gold for $7.99.
There’s still time to go to the movies this summer…on a rooftop, of course! Score your tickets fast to the Rooftop Film Club here.
